Parents, Students and Somerset Losee Community,
I want to thank you all for the honor of serving you as the Principal of Somerset Academy at Losee. I cannot wait to meet students, parents and teachers and get the 2019-2020 school year started. In order to build a productive relationship with each of you, I must first earn your trust and respect. I want to give you all a little background on my prior experience.
I grew up in Arlington Heights, Illinois the oldest of three children. I participated in Cross Country, Basketball and Track in High School and to be honest my desire to participate in sports and clubs played a big role in my academic success. After High School I moved on to Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois to complete my bachelor’s degree. Augustana is a small school that offered me the opportunity to continue participating in Track and Field. Ultimately, Track and Field coaching connections led me to a teaching opportunity in Las Vegas.
I began my teaching career in 1999 at Faith Lutheran Jr./Sr. High School. I loved teaching middle school social studies and coaching the High School Cross Country and Track teams. I learned so much and became very confident that Las Vegas was my home. In 2002 I moved to Cimarron-Memorial High School and continued coaching and teaching. I am very passionate about coaching. I carry the lessons I learned from coaching teams and athletes to working with teachers and students. I will push all of you hard, but I will work right along with you. In 2010 I became an administrator and I have spent the past eight years working to improve each school that I had the opportunity to serve. I was a Dean of Students at Centennial High School and an Assistant Principal at both Western High School and Arbor View High School.
I have spent the past month learning about Somerset Academy at Losee and listening to parents, students and staff. I have worked with my outstanding administrative team to develop an action plan to address some of the concerns that I have heard. Through this process, we developed a motto for the year CLEAR EYES. FULL HEARTS. CAN’T LOSE!
I believe that I serve each of you in this community and I will lead all interactions with understanding and kindness. I hope that the administration, teachers, support staff, students and parents will do the same. I see some of the challenges ahead of us, but I know if we all work together with kindness and compassion, we cannot lose.
I hope you will all join the Losee team to make this a winning year! I’m here for the long haul and we will succeed!
