Important Update from Principal Scobell 3/22
March 22, 2020
Hello Losee Lions,
I hope everyone is safe and healthy at home. It is very important during these uncertain times that we heed the advice of our Governor and stay home. The Somerset staff has been very busy this past week preparing instruction for your students, this instruction will begin tomorrow, Monday, March 23, 2020. After tomorrow, we are closing our campus and administration will work from home. Please check our website https:/www.somersetlosee.org/ frequently, as we will post important announcements there and also communicate through parent email. We are prepared to continue distance learning beyond the next two weeks if the school closure is extended. As information becomes available, I will share it with our community.
In an effort to maintain a connection with our Losee Lions
while we are working from home our AMAZING Student Council created a Virtual
Spirit Week. We would like to see ALL of
our K-12 student participate. The days
are as follows –
Monday: PJs and Pets – Spend the day in your pajama and take cute pictures with all of your pets
Tuesday: TV Tuesday – Show us what show you cannot stop watching (after you finished your school work!)
Wednesday: On-A -Roll Reader – Cozy up into your favorite reading spot and show us your favorite book!
Thursday: Show Your True Colors – Show us all the colors in your wardrobe
Friday: Roar With Pride – Show your Losee Pride with all of your Lion spirit Wear
As you participate send pictures to Mrs. Passer, email@example.com and you’ll get to show your spirit on the Losee Facebook page. Also, the top ten photos each day will be featured on the Losee Instagram account.
Students will have access to instructional materials through SeeSaw and the materials will also be posted on the website https://www.somersetlosee.org/ on Monday, March 23, 2020. This will include a list of supplemental instructional resources that are offering free access for families to use while the school is closed.
We are also
encouraging students to access their iReady accounts and continue to complete
lessons through that program.

If you requested a paper
packet through the survey that was posted on Monday, those packets will be
available in the car loop on Monday,
March 23, 2020 from 7:40 am until 9:00 am.
Please be prepared that this process could take some time as we are
working with only administration volunteers.
The afternoon packet pick up time has been cancelled out of an abundance
of caution and in an effort to keep our staff safe. Unfortunately, the survey is now closed
and additional requests for paper packets cannot be accommodated, as the
building is closed to employees.
During the time the school is closed, classroom teachers will reach out to your students 2-3 times each week. The teachers may be calling from their
personal cell phones with numbers blocked, so please be aware that an “unknown”
number or “private” number may be your child’s teacher. The purpose of the check in will be to answer
questions and keep in contact with our families.
Some teachers will also utilize a voluntary Zoom meeting
each week to check on students. This
schedule will be out to families very soon.
We will also provide instructions to parents so they can get their
students logged on. Again, this meeting

Middle School and High School Parents:
Students, grades 6-12, will be using the online program called Edgenuity for online learning. Students can access Edgenuity through a computer, cell phone or any internet compatible device. Follow the steps below to log in for the first time. Many students already have login capabilities, so this does not apply to them.
Step 1: Go to www.edgenuity.com
Step 2: Username is student’s school email address.
Example: (firstname.last email@example.com)
Step 3: Password is student’s school ID number.
Once a student logs in, an orientation video will automatically start.
Students are enrolled in the four core classes; English, math, science, and social studies. (Note: Students enrolled in AP Courses and Anatomy/Physiology will receive direction from their teacher. There is no online coursework for AP and Anatomy/Physiology courses.)
Expectations are that students complete three lessons each week per core (Math, Science, English and Social Studies) subject.
If a student is having problems logging for the first time using the directions above, email the individuals below for assistance.
Middle School- firstname.lastname@example.org
High School- Jessica.email@example.com
Third period teachers will be calling or emailing students once each week to check in and monitor student progress. Students who have specific academic questions are encouraged to email the specific teacher. All staff email addresses can be accessed through the school website: https://www.somersetlosee.org/
High School students
can earn a MAXIMUM of 10 volunteer hours during the school closure. Acceptable activities would include: assisting a sibling with school work, chores
around the house etc.. Please document
these hours as you would other volunteer hours.
Cancellation of Events:
Due to this situation all future events have been cancelled for the remainder of the 19-20 school year.
We received information that our Prom venue will not be open to the public on our scheduled date. Unfortunately, we will not host a Prom this school year.
We are aware that many families will be owed money from cancelled trips and events. We are working with vendors to obtain refunds. When businesses resume operation, we will finalize all refunds and contact families individually and issue refunds.
The Clark County School District (CCSD) will provide breakfast and lunch to students during the closure of our schools beginning Monday, March 16, 2020.
Student food distribution pods will be set up at 15 school locations throughout the valley from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday through Friday.
In order to comply with federal
regulations, a 0-18 year old child must be present with the parent or guardian
for food to be distributed. The pickup location will be set up outside of the
school sites to facilitate distribution.
